Feminist Election Newsroom is Back and Here to Stay
A collective, feminist practice of democratic engagement: tracking, interrogating, and holding power to account during elections and beyond.

April 2026 brings Assembly elections in four states and one Union Territory. The Constitution of India has long settled the question of who gets to vote. And yet, before a single vote is cast, voter lists are being revised and the question of who gets to participate in the polls—who belongs, who counts—is being questioned all over again.
How does one participate in a democracy when the very idea of citizenship is in question?
We have no easy answers. But we do have a space to collectively bear witness, build understanding, and hold power accountable for what democracy delivers—and for whom.
That space is BehanBox’s Feminist Election Newsroom (FEN). After a short break, it’s back and this time, it’s here to stay.
FEN brings our rigorous feminist journalism together with a community of people committed to engaging with it collectively: tracking poll promises, following electoral mandates and government policies, shaping what gets covered, and building the collective capacity to interrogate power and hold governments to account during elections and long after.
Over the past two years, FEN has grown into a community of 400+ people. Through five election cycles, members engaged with BehanBox’s election reportage, brought their local realities into the conversation, created multilingual electoral literacy resources, and contributed to initiatives like ‘Mera First Vote‘ and ‘Suno Behan‘.
This year, FEN becomes permanent—a year-round practice of feminist democratic engagement to track elections, parliament sessions, budgets, policies, and what all of it means for the lives of women, workers, and marginalised communities. Join us for the April 2026 state Assembly elections in Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal and stay for everything that comes after.
